"Seize The Moment"
It's not something you haven't heard before, nothing new. Still, let me take you through this rumination.
People have said it time and again - seize the moment (or day), carpe diem - we have heard it, said it, and passed it on; thrown it out there without a second thought, like a reflex action, or a passive habit. Something cool to say, posh, but something I think have lost its true meaning, depth, and simplicity, due to repeated and lazy usage. It's just said and forgotten. Still at our disposal to be used again. And use it is all that we do, or maybe misuse it?
To actually seize a movement, that is something very few does, dares to do, or even think about doing. When I say this, one would think in terms of grand adventures or doing something out of the ordinary, something courageous. Well, it is a tall order to be fair, something courageous indeed. It calls on one to be aware of everything that is happening at a given point of time, continuing indefinitely .i.e. to be present in the moment, to feel it all completely and entirely; to let the overwhelming sensations of each seconds wash over oneself - until the end. It also means to be aware of those moments of unfeeling numbness that descends over us at times.
To seize the moment is not just about doing something gutsy or daring, but to live every minute seconds of this most ordinary existence in an extraordinary manner by being faithful to each ticking of the clock. It dares you to be real to yourself, and to the world. To take everything that is given to you - the love, the pain, the anger, the agony, the betrayal, the loneliness, the numbness - the whole package of good and bad, without resistance. So, it turns out to be something very simple and fundamental. To be here, now, and be you!
Or am I oversimplifing the phrase and robbing it off all its magic? Let me know your thoughts on it.
Cheers!
