An Attempt at Haiku
So, what is haiku?
It is a form of short poetry that emerged in Japanese Literature during the 12th century, but got the name "haiku" only after the 19th century.
A haiku consists of 17 syllables, divided into 3 lines in a 5, 7, 5 pattern. It will also have a "cutting word", kireji ( typically at the end of one of the three phrases - which I have not really pinned down, yet), bringing about a turn in thought.
Haikus are generally about some observations of nature or of life, it can be about anything actually.
so, here I go-
1*
the night is alive,
a cricket stridulating;
then - flash of a tongue.
2*
scoring heat beats on,
as I walk covered in sweat,
thunder! Now I'm drenched.
3*
the air so oddly
light indeed! Whose heaviness-
its absence will tell.
4*
essence if any,
is one and the same for all -
man, beast; earth and sky!
5*
A castle of words
Built in ink as it runs on,
Then stops abrupt – not!
That's it for now. Try writing some of your own, might turn out good. Have fun with words :)
